Work under the general direction of the Manager, Purchasing and is responsible for purchasing specific commodities which are standard to moderately complex in order to support production and related operating departments. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Obtain competitive bids from established and reliable sources; analyze supplier operations to identify factors that affect price and determine lowest cost consistent with quality, reliability and ability to meet required schedules. Perform standard price negotiations; recommend and/or select appropriate suppliers. Use automated information systems to produce and track purchase orders and related documentation; monitor schedule and delivery dates. Resolve issues related to quantity, delivery and invoicing; keep supervision informed of problems, as necessary. Ensure adequate documentation is available to provide the necessary support for government audits.
Maintain effective liaison with suppliers and necessary company operating departments to ensure adequate flow of information concerning progress of materials, anticipated delivery schedules, etc. Visit supplier facilities as necessary. Identify problem areas; recommend corrective action.
Perform special projects, as assigned.
Requirements:
- Broad knowledge of a specialized field such as procurement or materials.
- Requires ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, etc.
- Planning, organizational, verbal/written communication skills needed.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Bachelor"s Degree in Business or Related Field or a minimum of three years of procurement experience in the field of government purchasing and a professional certification in the field of supply chain management.
- 1-3 years of experience to qualify
- Aerospace being preferred, open to manufacturing industries in general
