Job Summary:
The IT System Administrator will support security operations and infrastructure by monitoring, analyzing, and responding to security events across network, cloud, and system environments. This role combines cybersecurity responsibilities with hands-on system administration, including certificate management, identity and access control, and hybrid infrastructure support. The administrator will assist in implementing security controls, supporting infrastructure and cloud projects, and collaborating with vendors while maintaining high standards of security, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Job Responsibilities:
* Monitor and respond to security events and alerts within Security Operations Center (SOC) or Managed Detection and Response (MDR) environments
* Work with vendors to apply and manage security certificates across systems and devices as part of enterprise certificate management initiatives
* Apply and manage certificates for infrastructure and applications, ensuring secure communications and compliance
* Support implementation and onboarding of SOC/MDR services, including development of procedures and documentation
* Assist with VM migration projects, including implementation of vendor-selected solutions
* Configure and secure web services, including IIS and HTTP header configurations for both Windows and Linux environments
* Manage and secure Active Directory environments, including new forest setup, identity management, and access control improvements
* Create, manage, and audit Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to enforce security baselines
* Support Privileged Identity Management (PIM), Privileged Access Management (PAM), and Just-in-Time (JIT) access implementations
* Provide security evaluation and implementation support for infrastructure and cloud projects (Azure, hybrid environments)
* Support Network Access Control (NAC) and segmentation initiatives where applicable
* Perform system installation, patching, upgrades, and maintenance for Windows Server and Linux systems (Ubuntu, Rocky, RHEL)
* Monitor and maintain backup and recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam, Azure backup services)
* Analyze security incidents, perform root cause analysis, and recommend remediation actions
* Document processes, findings, configurations, and security procedures clearly and accurately
* Ensure compliance with organizational security policies, CIS/NIST standards, and regulatory requirements
* Maintain a clean, organized, and secure working environment while adhering to all safety and compliance standards
* Participate in required safety training and uphold organizational core values (CARES: Community, Actions, Reliability, Excellence, Safety)
Required Qualifications:
* Associate"s degree required; bachelor"s degree preferred in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or related field
* Foundational to intermediate understanding of cybersecurity principles, threats, and defense mechanisms
* Hands-on experience in cloud and virtualization environments (VMware vSphere/vCenter, Microsoft Azure)
* Experience with identity and access management tools, including Azure Entra ID (Azure AD) and M365
* Knowledge of Privileged Identity Management (PIM), PAM, and Just-in-Time (JIT) access concepts
* Experience with PowerShell or Bash scripting for automation
* Experience working in hybrid environments (on-premises and cloud)
* Familiarity with SIEM platforms and endpoint protection systems
* Strong understanding of networking concepts including IP addressing, TCP/IP, and basic firewall rules
* Experience administering Windows Server and Linux systems (Ubuntu, Rocky, RHEL)
* Familiarity with CIS and NIST compliance frameworks
* Experience with backup and recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam, Azure)
* Ability to plan, organize, and manage time effectively across multiple projects
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
* Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and records
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
