Job Summary:
We are looking for a skilled Welding Engineer to support and optimize welding processes in a fast-paced production environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in welding, particularly with aluminum and stainless steel, along with expertise in material analysis, process improvement, and quality control. This role involves ensuring the highest standards of weld quality and process compliance while driving efficiency and innovation in welding techniques, tooling design, and training.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and apply material properties, design, and quality specifications for aerospace welding, with a focus on aluminum and stainless-steel materials.
* Conduct material analysis, including failure analysis, life predictions, and defining requirements for weld tooling, hardware, and structures.
* Create, qualify, and execute welding processes, including spot welding and tungsten arc welding, to meet industry standards and production needs.
* Review and approve subcontractor welding procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards, quality control processes, and safety protocols.
* Set up and optimize weld schedules, working to create efficient weld structures and processes.
* Analyze weld data to identify trends, monitor system health, and implement improvements in weld quality for both production and rework/repair operations.
* Conduct and oversee inspections, including nonconformance inspections (visual, dye penetrant, ultrasonic, x-ray), and apply both destructive and nondestructive testing processes to assess weld integrity.
* Prepare and manage dispositions and recovery plans for welding defects, ensuring swift and effective solutions are implemented.
* Train, mentor, and assist junior welders and support the development of a younger engineering and welding team, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
Qualifications:
* Proven experience in aerospace welding and engineering, or in a similarly regulated production environment.
* Expertise in developing welding schedules, mechanical testing, metallurgical inspections, and supporting weld tool design.
* Strong knowledge of inspection and testing methods, including visual, dye penetrant, ultrasonic, x-ray, and other nondestructive and destructive testing processes.
* Proficiency in setting up weld schedules, creating weld structures, and writing dispositions and recovery plans for quality control.
* Ability to analyze and resolve welding quality issues, implement process improvements, and train and mentor junior team members.
* Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., AS9100, NADCAP) and welding automation systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with failure analysis, life predictions, and advanced material properties in aerospace.
* Knowledge of aerospace regulatory and quality standards for welding.
* Experience with tungsten welding processes and spot welding applications.
