Our client is a growing manufacturing leader of precision machined components serving aerospace, defense, oil, gas, microwave technology, industrial and commercial sectors. Their team is committed to producing the highest quality work using the latest state-of-the-art equipment, technology, and manufacturing methods. The company, which serves a global market, is in Agawam, Massachusetts.
Shift Hours:
2nd Shift: 3pm to 11:30pm - with occasional overtime based on a 40-hour week. (on-site)
The Role:
Our client is seeking a confident and efficient person to fill this important role in our quality department. We are looking for an experienced Quality Technician & CMM Operator - proficient in operating CMM, with the ability to troubleshoot programming issues and the ability to work independently on the second shift.
This role is responsible for inspecting aerospace parts per customer blueprints and specifications, within a machine shop environment. The Quality Technician will help enhance the productivity of our organization and ensure that continuous improvement process is maintained.
This is a hands-on role ideal for a quality-driven professional with aerospace experience who thrives in fast-paced, precision-focused environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for CMM operation, troubleshooting CMM programming issues, performing first article inspections (FAI), manual inspections, ensuring compliance with AS9100/AS9102, and managing quality interaction within the department"s team and across all internal departments.
Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance:
o Assist in establishing and maintaining robust quality management systems for aerospace manufacturing and maintenance.
o Assist with conducting comprehensive audits and inspections to assess compliance with quality and customer specifications and standards.
o Perform visual and dimensional inspections on incoming materials, in-process parts, and finished products using tools like calipers, micrometers, coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) and other tools.
o Identify defects, deviations from specifications, and non-conforming materials, and report them according to established procedures.
o Verify CMM measurement results using alternative metrology techniques
o Perform process and procedure audits in the manufacturing environment
o Lead in-house or on-site customer product sorts and re-inspections to resolve quality issues
o Issue, maintain and implement activities relating to corrective and/or preventive action
o Implement and maintain quality systems in accordance with ISO 9001 guidelines.
o Collaborate with engineering Production and Purchasing teams to troubleshoot and resolve any quality-related issues.
o Document inspection results and maintain accurate records for traceability and compliance purposes.
o Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing product quality and operational efficiency
o Inspect and ensure parts comply with customer and company specifications and standards as well as Federal and State law.
o Ensure test equipment is calibrated and working correctly.
o Identify possible areas for improvement in quality control processes.
o Ensure production is not hindered by quality testing procedures.
o Ensure CMM is working at optimal capacity for accuracy and efficiency.
o Complete inspection documentation and report discrepancies to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations and quality standards.
o Determine part inspection requirements from internal or customer drawings.
o Create or edit programs for the coordinate measuring machine (CMM).
o Utilize the programs to complete dimensional inspection using the coordinate measuring machine (CMM).
o Understand and utilize GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing) to complete detailed part inspection.
o Ensure the part inspection programs are consistent with part number and revision level.
o Complete AS 9100/ISO 9001 dimensional reports.
o Conduct finished product inspections with hand gauges and other measurement systems.
o Perform inspections on incoming goods as required.
o Log and maintain inspection data as needed for evaluating and reporting.
o Maintain calibration system and conduct calibrations as needed.
o Support all ISO 9001 and AS 9100 Quality objectives.
o Perform First Piece inspections
o Perform and approve First Article Inspections
o Perform root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
o Balloon drawings and generate First Piece and FAI documents
o Perform verification of regulatory and customer requirements
o Assist with improvement of departmental structure and employee trainings
o Assist with managing the company non-conformance databases
o Inspect raw materials to find defects and enhance durability
o Brainstorm ideas to create solutions for identified problems
o Assist with problem solving activities utilizing industry standard methodologies
o Maintain quality standards, compliance, and customer satisfaction
Operational Maintenance:
o Follow existing policies and procedures, reporting any changes or improvements to Leadership.
o Analyze data and review part history to evaluate the reliability of source information.
o Verify calibration and perform preventive maintenance on measuring equipment, troubleshooting malfunctions, and coordinating repairs as needed.
Required attributes:
o A minimum of 3 years" experience working in a Quality Technician and CMM Operator role within a manufacturing environment.
o CMM Operation: Proficient in operating CMM, with the ability to troubleshoot programming issues.
o Experience with First Article Inspections (FAI): Ability to perform first piece and first article inspections.
o Hand Checks: Skilled in using hand tools for inspections (e.g., tables, measuring tools).
o Independence: Ability to work solo on-site, with remote access to support.
o Ability and experience completing general quality inspection tasks.
o Experience with aerospace standards and inspections.
o In depth knowledge of regulated industry standards, such as AS9100, ISO 9001
o Excellent drawing interpretation skills
o Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally at all levels within the organization.
o Fluency in written and spoken English
o Organized, practical, logical in work approach
o Positive can-do attitude
o High School degree.
Desired attributes:
o A minimum of 5 years" experience working in a Quality Technician and CMM Programmer / Operator role within a manufacturing environment
o Working knowledge of lean principles
o Experience of AS/ISO, NIST audits
o Six Sigma trained
