Position Summary
The Powder Painter is responsible for applying powder coatings to metal and manufactured components using manual and automated spray equipment. This role ensures products meet quality, appearance, and durability standards while maintaining safe and efficient operation of powder coating equipment. Typical duties include surface preparation, powder application, equipment maintenance, quality inspection, and adherence to safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare parts and surfaces for powder coating by cleaning, masking, and inspecting components.
Apply powder coatings using electrostatic spray guns and automated powder coating systems.
Monitor coating thickness, coverage, and finish quality to ensure specifications are met.
Perform color changes and clean powder coating equipment to prevent contamination.
Load and unload parts from racks, conveyors, and curing ovens.
Inspect finished products for defects, coverage issues, and appearance standards.
Troubleshoot coating application issues and make adjustments to equipment as necessary.
Perform routine preventive maintenance on powder coating equipment and spray systems.
Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S and housekeeping standards.
Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and environmental regulations.
Qualifications
Required
High school diploma or GED.
Experience with industrial powder coating or painting processes.
Knowledge of powder coating application techniques and equipment.
Ability to read work orders and follow written instructions.
Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Experience with powder coating products.
Knowledge of quality inspection methods and coating thickness measurements.
Forklift or material handling experience.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with heat, dust, and noise.
Ability to wear required PPE, including respirators, gloves, and safety glasses.
