A Technical Project Manager (TPM), BMS Hardware Test job opportunity is available with our client in Berkeley, Ca. In this role, you will sit at the intersection of Hardware Design, Test Engineering, Regulatory Compliance, and Operations. You will be directly responsible for the coordination, scheduling, and execution of critical UL 991 compliance testing for our Battery Management System (BMS).
Job Duties
* Own the master schedule, milestones, and critical path for all BMS hardware testing tied to UL 991 (Standard for Tests for Safety-Related Controls Employing Solid-State Devices).
* Coordinate cross-functional efforts between BMS hardware designers, embedded software engineers, test engineers, and external third-party certification bodies (e.g., UL, Intertek).
* Ensure test readiness, unblock daily laboratory execution hurdles, and track the progress of test cycles against tight product launch timelines.
* Coordinate and schedule the design, delivery, assembly, and commissioning of the specialized test beds, instrumentation, and environmental chambers required for UL 991 testing.
* Manage timelines with external fabricators, equipment vendors, and internal technicians to ensure hardware delivery matches the test schedule.
* Coordinate the design and build of infrastructure supporting wider BMS Reliability testing, maximumly leveraging the core hardware and software designs developed for the UL 991 effort.
* Establish rigorous tracking for test failures or anomalies, ensuring clean data and clear root-cause analysis (RCA) are effectively routed back to the product design teams for iterative improvements.
* Provide clear, data-driven progress updates, risk assessments, and mitigation plans to leadership regarding certification timelines and lab capacity constraints.
Knowledge/Skills/Education
* 5+ years of experience as a TPM, Project Manager, or Lead Test Engineer working with complex electronic systems, ideally in automotive, aerospace, medical device, or grid-scale energy storage industries.
* Strong foundational understanding of PCBA manufacturing, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, and Battery Management System (BMS) architectures.
* Prior experience navigating safety-critical hardware standards (e.g., UL 991, UL 1998, IEC 61508, or ISO 26262).
* Proven track record of managing the build-out of physical engineering assets, test fixtures, or laboratory capabilities.
* Mastery of scheduling tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, MS Project) with an ability to distill highly fluid technical challenges into clear, linear dependencies.
